Michael Chao

Dr. Michael Chao began his academic journey in 2015 as an Assistant Professor at California State University, Chico (CSUC), transitioned to Kansas State University (KSU) in 2018 and is currently an Associate Professor of Meat Science in the Department of Animal Science at Texas A&M University (TAMU). He is an accomplished meat scientist and teacher who is currently making a substantial impact on the meat industry and students’ lives. His efforts have resulted in 38 peer-reviewed publications, 49 research reports, 90 scientific abstracts, 7 popular presses, 1 book chapter and over $2.5 million in research funding from various federal, state and industry sources. Dr. Chao also served as the mentor for 11 outstanding graduate students and was on the supervisory tee for 12 other graduate students. Dr. Chao has taught 12 different courses spanning a wide array of topics, from introductory meat science to advanced graduate-level subjects over his career at CSUC, KSU and TAMU. His teaching uations and student feedback consistently reflect the positive impact of his thoughtful, dynamic, and student-centered pedagogy. Finally, his service is documented by his continued engagement with multiple national and university wide tees as well as his involvement with US Meat Export Federation.
