Dr. Fang-Chia Chang, Ph.D., is a highly respected Taiwanese academic and a leading figure in the fields of neuroscience, sleep physiology, sleep medicine, pharmacology, and pharmacy. Currently a Distinguished Professor at the School of Veterinary Medicine, National Taiwan University (NTU), Dr. Chang′s remarkable career reflects his dedication to advancing scientific knowledge and education. His academic foundation was laid with a B.S. in Pharmacy from Kaohsiung Medical College, followed by an M.S. in Pharmacology from National Cheng-Kung University. He then pursued his passion for neuroscience, earning a Ph.D. from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, where he specialized in sleep research.
Dr. Chang′s professional journey began with academic appointments at China Medical University in Taichung, Taiwan, where he quickly progressed from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor in the Department of Chinese Medicine. In 2005, he joined NTU′s School of Veterinary Medicine, where his career flourished. He advanced from Assistant Professor to Full Professor, eventually becoming Dean of the School from 2020 to 2023. During his tenure as Dean, he played a pivotal role in shaping the future of veterinary medicine in Taiwan and the broader Asian region, serving concurrently as Vice President of the Asian Association of Veterinary Schools under the WOAH Regional Representation for Asia and the Pacific.
Dr. Chang’s leadership extends beyond administrative roles; he is also the Director of NTU′s Neurobiology & Cognitive Science Center and the Chair of the Taiwan International Graduate Program in Interdisciplinary Neuroscience at NTU. These positions underscore his ment to fostering interdisciplinary research and training the next generation of scientists.
His contributions to education have been recognized with numerous awards, including the Outstanding Teaching Award and Excellence Teaching Awards from NTU. His research excellence has earned him the National Innovator Award twice, reflecting his innovative approach to solving complex scientific problems. Earlier in his career, Dr. Chang received several prestigious awards, such as the APSS Merit Award and multiple Trainee Travel Awards from the Sleep Research Society, which recognized his groundbreaking work in sleep medicine.
