Ben Wu is a Professor of Ecology and a Presidential Professor for Teaching Excellence at Texas A&M University. The current research of his lab group is focused on the spatial ecology and pyric herbivory in savanna landscapes and an associated education program focused on faculty/teacher development and educational innovations. Other recent projects include landscape biogeochemistry of savanna systems, ecology of terracette landscapes, and authentic scientific inquiries in introductory ecology courses and their effects on student learning. He has published 110 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters and has been a PI or co-PI on competitive s of over $25 million (directly responsible for directing $6.4 million). He teaches a large-enrollment introductory ecology course and a graduate course on landscape analysis and has served as chair/co-chair for 20 PhD and 20 Masters students as well as tee member for 81 PhD and 44 Masters students. He also served as Associate Dean of Faculties and Director of the Center for Teaching Excellence at Texas A&M in 2009-2014 and Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs of COALS in 2019-2023. He has been engaged in faculty development work and conducted numerous workshops on teaching and learning and faculty success.
